About Us
The Emergency Healthcare Development Foundation (EHDF)
This is a nonprofit initiative of Emergency Response Africa established to expand access to emergency care for underserved communities and people who cannot afford the care they need during medical emergencies. Our work was inspired by a reality we encountered every day.
As Emergency Response Africa responded to emergency calls across Nigeria, we found that many people in critical need of emergency care were unable to access our services simply because they could not afford them. EHDF exists to change that. Through donor support and strategic partnerships, we help remove financial barriers to emergency care while investing in stronger emergency healthcare systems. We support initiatives that train healthcare workers and community first responders, strengthen emergency preparedness, and bring emergency care closer to the people who need it most.

“When I was told how much the ambulance would cost, I knew I couldn't afford it.”
Esther called ERA in the middle of the night when her 72-year-old mother was struggling to breathe. Through the Emergency Healthcare Development Foundation's E-Fund, the cost of her ambulance transfer was covered, enabling her mother to receive oxygen and be safely transported to the hospital for further care.
“Thank you so much for helping us… Mama is a bit better now because of the emergency care you provided.”
